5 Sustainable Gift Ideas This Christmas

Are you looking to give some gifts to family, friends, and someone special this festive period

Here are 5 tip ideas to make your gifts more sustainable, whilst being full of thought and meaning.

1. Gift an experience

Take them for a day out, the cinema/theatre, a meal, concert, one thing I’ve bought this year is cooking lessons for my brother and it is a great way to have him learn to cook more sustainably and hopefully enjoy the course at the same time.

2. Look for something vintage/second hand that someone really wants

This is something we need to remove any stigma on. We don’t need to buy someone something shiny and new. The thought of hunting for a great gift that has served a previous life should be appreciated! You can learn more about the backstory of an item and tell the recipient of your gift the journey it has been on already and that they’re now going to be part of it.

3. Make something for them

Get creative, what defines your relationship with this person. Use these common interests and get creative with what you can make for them. My girlfriend bought me some tie dye to do, which we used some t-shirts for and it was such a gift to receive.

4. Host a dinner for them

This should leave s memory for you all, host an evening for your friends and family. The holidays are about being together not about spending money. So gather your close ones and spend quality time together.

5. Buy handmade, sustainable products

What I mean by this, do your research on a product understand where it comes from, if you want to get something for someone, ask yourself if this is the best version of that item:

  • Can you get it local?

  • Is it made responsibly?

  • Do they really need it, can you get something else?

Whatever you do this year, the fact you’ve taken to time to read this puts you on the side of making a difference, you’re actively trying to reduce your impact, whilst showing your appreciation for your friends and understanding you can make someone smile without it costing the earth.

If you have any questions on what else I have bought for my friends and family this year let me know.
