5 Everyday items I use which are sustainable swaps.

Hey everyone, here is a simple list of just some things I use daily or nearly daily, which makes my life a little bit more sustainable!

Water bottle:

I mean this one is a straightforward one, work for Christmas last year gave everyone an ocean bottle branded with Polestar on it. This has been with me in 9 countries this year already and a 10th one this weekend when I travel to Norway.

Coupling this with the re-fill app (allows you to find places where you’re able to fill up water bottles and coffee cups etc). This means I do not need to buy a bottle of water again, except when I was in Spain as it was advised to not drink the tap water due to the treatment differences from that of what we’re used to furthering north in Europe.

Glass food box:

This is an ideal use for taking leftovers for work but also freezing food for later days. Something I use mine for more than the former. Although, from a cost point of view and when Evie heads back to the UK next month I’ll likely start cooking for two in the evenings and having the second portion for lunch at work the next day.

The reason why I choose glass is because of reports I’ve read about plastics from other containers finding their way into our bodies. This can be caused by scratching the surface with cutlery over time. So now I wish to avoid plastic where possible.

Wild deodorant:

This is something I’ve been using since 2020 and I should probably write a blog about it. As you can tell my case is very battered from living in my toiletries bag and now being in 4 different houses with me. Not to mention the countless countries I have taken it to since getting it.

Using this has seemed like a cost reduction and a reduction in my waste. Not to mention the ease of the subscription. The issue I have at the moment is that I have no real post box in my current apartment. So I have to order a bulk amount from my parents and collect it when I am next home.

If you’ve not tried Wild yet, I’d strongly recommend it. It does take a period to adjust to using it, but I think it is a no-brainer. Now I am in a moment where it is no inconvenience to use this rather than a more traditional alternative… the true way we are going to get the tides turned on our cumulative carbon footprints.

Toothpaste tablets:

This I’ve had to start using recently due to my supply of half-used toothpaste tubes has now run out. So I am giving these a go. I can expand more on how I feel about them once I have been doing it for a reasonable period.

The tablets are strange at first, but the results I’ve felt are really good. I’d be interested to look into any studies carried out on the differences in hygiene and protection both options offer.

Keep cup:

This is my absolute favourite and I use this all the time. Especially after making some coffee on my stovetop coffee maker. Also handy when around town or in the office to refill an infinitely refillable cup, rather than take a coffee cup from a shop etc.

Do you have any small items you’ve swapped out which make your life easier, or you do not notice the difference, but get the sustainability boost from it?
