Gothenburg to Copenhagen by Train

Hej Hej, have you ever wanted to travel Europe by train? Explore parts of the continent without having to fly? Well, yesterday I took a train from where I now live in Gothenburg, Sweden to Copenhagen, Denmark… my dream transport of choice.

I absolutely love the idea of travelling by train to as many places as possible. It is a great way to see the surroundings en route, whilst not having to go through airport security, and with a much smaller carbon cost. Win Win.

So back to Sweden to Denmark. We booked the train one week before, to travel over the weekend, so naturally it will be the more expensive times. However, it was only £40 equivalent each way, which for an international trip, is bloody cheap.

The journey took around 4 hours in total with incredible views of the Swedish coastline, and even went over the famous bridge between Sweden and Denmark, so if that is not a reason enough to take it, then I don’t know what is!

Based on the success of this travel, and the opportunity to visit Oslo and Stockholm so easily on the train, I am also looking at methods to get to London next month without using a plane, as I wish to have as small of a carbon footprint as possible, whilst also being able to live my life and visit friends and family.

This though is looking expensive due to the cost of the Eurostar between Amsterdam and London, which is a real shame as the plane for a trip on a similar day is about £150 return and by train is £400… so insane.

Anyway, this has taught me that trains within continental Europe are amazing, but as soon as you want to cross to England it gets really expensive… looks like I’ll be mainland a lot this year.
