5 best ways to buy second hand

In a previous post of mine, I talked about how much I love buying second-hand furniture. This post is a follow-up to give you some advice on where you can buy second-hand Items of any kind.

Facebook marketplace:

Great for local area hunting, you can collect a whole host of items on here. I’ve previously bought: coffee tables, bar stools, and TV stands using this site, saving an insane amount of money compared to buying new products.

You can search for a host of items, and set your radius, or if you’re like me, to browse often for what’s being sold near you. It can be a scrolling wormhole at times!

eBay/Gumtree/Craigslist

For the modern classics, using eBay, and other auction sites is a wonderful method. I recently bought a second-hand SUP from eBay for under half of the retail price, for a relatively unused item.

Again like FB marketplace, if you know what you’re looking for -search away. Make use of the ‘Buy now’, or if you’re brave outbid people for items. I find it useful to get notifications when the Items I am looking for are not on the site currently, you can get notifications for your search items to check what’s around regularly.

Charity Shops

Thrift shopping! What a great way to spend some time with your friends. If you’re looking for some outfits for themed events or some absolute bargains, take a browse in your local charity shops. Better yet, gather some friends, and plan an afternoon charity shop surfing, tie it in with some lunch/dinner and you’ve got a great time spent with friends.

Depop

A more modern approach to online shopping, but incredible deals to be had if you’re willing to scroll through.

With an approach similar to eBay etc, it’s an easy platform to start using. You’re able to sort and filter through your sizes, and types of garments. So enjoy at your will.

Car boot / Yard Sales

Lastly but by no means least, Car boot / Yard sales. These are also wonderful mornings spent with family or friends, looking out for some deals which you can’t find on the high street. As they say “one man’s trash is another man’s treasure” and no better place to see this in action than here.

Go online to look at where local sales are near you. Practice your best bartering skills, and just enjoy meeting new people, and browsing the domestic treasures you might not know you wanted.
